Churen Himal Expedition (7371m, 24,183ft)
Standing at 7371m (24,183 ft), the Churen Himal Expedition is an exciting challenge. Churen is less crowded compared to other destinations like Langtang, Annapurna, and Everest. It is located to the north of Beni and to the west of Mount Dhaulagiri I. The Churen Himal range comprises three summits: Churen West (7,371 m / 24,183 ft), Churen Central (7,375 m / 24,196 ft), and Churen North (7,371 m / 24,183 ft). Often referred to as a lesser-known treasure of Nepal, this route offers stunning panoramas, diverse terrain, and rich wildlife habitats as it traverses the Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve, which spans an area of 1,325 square kilometers. You will learn about different hidden communities, different cultures and heritages, and rugged trails through Magar villages. On the way, you will see Giant Dhaulagiri Peak, Annapurna, as well as Gurja Himal.Churen is among the seventh series of mountains in the Dhaulagiri Range.
The Nepalese government and Ministry of Tourism temporarily suspended peak climbing at that time for various reasons. After the ban was lifted, the first successful ascent of Churen Himal was achieved in 1970 by an expedition from the Academic Alpine Club of Shizuoka. Several earlier attempts to reach the summit had been undertaken before this historic climb. By establishing base camp at 4,800 meters, the Japanese team led by Mr. K. Fukui, K. Hasegawa, Mr. Ryozo Yamamoto, and the team ascended via the southeast ridge. On October 24, they reached the west peak and the central peak on October 28. Their successful climb set a new standard for future expeditions in Churen Himal.
This expedition route is for those who love to explore beautiful nature and wild valleys. Climbers should consider April, May, October, and November the best months, based on trail conditions and weather forecasts. The route goes from Kathmandu–Pokhara–Darbang by tourist bus and jeep. Trekking begins after reaching Darbang. It takes around 9–10 days to reach the Churen Himal South Base Camp via Dharpatan, Takum, Lumsung, Gurja, Darsing Kharka and Burjung Kharka. From beginning to end, the expedition will take up to 40 days while climbing period will be about 20 days.
The base camp is at 4,800m/15,748ft, which is in a remote glacial valley, surrounded by rocky ridges and icefalls.
Satori Adventures will fix three high camps:
Camp I (5,700m / 17,700ft): You'll camp on snow or ice, and to climb the mountain, you'll have to walk across icy ground and carefully avoid or cross deep cracks in the ice.
Camp II (6,200m / 20,341ft): This camp is just below the final ridge to the top, and getting there involves climbing up steeper, icy, and snowy terrain that requires technical skills and gear.
Camp III (6,700m / 21,981ft): This is the final staging point before the summit. Your ultimate summit attempt will depend on weather conditions and your level of acclimatization.
After a long, technical climb with sections of rock, mixed snow, and ice, you will reach the summit. This day marks your final push to the summit.
