Known as the great white mountain in Western Nepal, Dhaulagiri is standing tall having 8167m/26795ft and is renowned as the seventh highest peak in the world. With a length of 30 kilometers, Dhaulagiri soars 7,000 meters above the Kali Gandaki Valley. Its name, derived from Sanskrit, means "White Mountain"—a fitting title for this majestic giant of the Himalayas. Because of the remote surroundings, Dhaulagiri is one of the lesser climbed among 8000m peaks, but it is also an interesting one, offering multiple routes for only skilled and dedicated mountaineers. Mountaineers can complete a Dhaulagiri expedition using different routes. It has over six alternative paths. With its massive ascent, sharp slopes, and breathtaking ridges, Dhaulagiri stands among the most majestic peaks in Nepal.
Dhaulagiri was one of the most hard and difficult 8000m peaks to summit because of its sharp slopes, breathtaking ridges, and unpredictable weather. In the early days, because of its difficulty, the summit was challenging. Climbers did not achieve the first successful climb until 1960. The first successful ascent of Dhaulagiri was achieved by a Swiss-Austrian-Nepali team on May 13, 1960. They reached the peak via the northeast ridge, which is now called as the standard route.

Climbing Sherpas has a crucial role during the expedition, mountaineering, or especially in the Himalayan region. A Sherpa should be highly skilled and instinctive, who can guide, support, and ensure the safety of climbers on expeditions. Satori Adventures uses highly trained Sherpas, raised in the Himalayas, for our expeditions. Our team comprises highly skilled Sherpas, multiple summiteers of the highest peaks, recognized as some of the best climbers, leaders, and mountain guides. There should be proper coordination or cooperation with other Sherpas from different companies and base camp organizations. Every company has their own respective person in a base camp for communication among Sherpas and members. Himalayan climbing teams collaborate, sharing the workload of route fixing to guarantee safety from base camp to the summit. Our Sherpas are of full potential for a successful summit because of their excellent knowledge of weather patterns, altitude effects, local culture, and terrain navigation.
Dhaulagiri's south and west sides have 5 ridges and 2 faces. We run the trip mostly from the Northeast Ridge, but if there is a group requesting to go from the Southeast, Southwest, or Northwest Ridges, Satori Adventures can organize it, provided there are a minimum of 5–6 people on the team. On the Northeast Ridge, we will establish an Advanced Base Camp for nearly a month during the climb. This camp will serve as a home base for the long-term expedition. Satori Adventures will provide personal tents, a dining tent, a common area, a shower tent, and a toilet tent. At the base camp, your support staff and Sherpas will already be there, ready and waiting to assist you. Base camp staff will hold a puja ceremony at base camp before your climb, wishing for a safe summit.
Dhaulagiri Camp I (5450m/17,880ft)
After receiving basic and advanced training from your climbing Sherpa guide, you will attempt to climb to Camp I. This climb will involve mixed terrains.
Dhaulagiri Camp II (6400m/20,997ft)
Climbers at Dhaulagiri Camp II face ice and several challenging climbing sections. Climbing to Camp II ascends ice and a few climbing sections. The distance gap between Camp I and II is more comfortable and safer compared with other centers. Camp II lies above the snowy terrace.
Dhaulagiri Camp III (7400m/24,278ft)
This section of climbing is on sustained slopes. You need to climb around 4 hours alongside blue ice and snow. In Autumn, because of direct sun hitting, there are reports of hot weather in this climbing section. To avoid avalanche risk, Satori suggests autumn climbs instead of spring climbs because of icy spring snow slopes.
Dhaulagiri Summit (8,167m/26,795ft)
The primary goal of this journey is to reach the top of the peak. The summit of Dhaulagiri represents the peak of mountaineering accomplishment and is a symbol of human tenacity and the unwavering spirit that propels explorers to reach new heights in the heart of the Himalayas. From the summit, climbers see an amazing view stretching across the Annapurna and Mustang districts, offering a broad overview of snow-capped peaks and untamed landscape.
Dhaulagiri's difficult Northeast Ridge route demands exceptional mountaineering abilities. So it is important for each climber to choose the right expedition guide service. Choosing the right company helps you make it to the top. Satori Adventures provides the best safe mountaineering experience possible.
